Find a Breeder
It is not easy to produce cute Miniature bulldog puppies. Sometimes an artificial insemination has to be done to get miniature female pregnant and
C-section is required for puppies to be born. There are not too many Miniature bulldog breeders around. You need to call several breeders and find out as much about their dogs as you can, before you make your final decision.
Make sure you look for an honest and responsible breeder, not the one who wants only your money. Responsible breeder will give you guarantee and will stand behind his puppies. Responsible breeder will do hip and elbow X-ray for all of his breeding dogs.
Also remember that AKC registry DOES NOT recognize Miniature bulldogs. all miniature puppies registered by AKC as some breeders claim, are in fact normal standard size English Bulldog puppies. There are several English Bulldog breeders advertising "miniature puppies" on miniature site, but the same website they have also on Standard English Bulldog site, because they just have normal big size bulldogs. So please be careful where you buy. Stay away from breeders who don't let you visit, won't talk about dysplasia or won't refund your money. Find the honest breeder who will do all these. You will save yourself a lot of money and a big headache.
Before you send your deposit you need to ask several questions:
- How long do you breed and how many dogs do you have?
Don’t settle for answer I don’t know exactly, I am not sure, or about 10
- Do you breed yourself, or do you just sell puppies for other breeders?
If they don’t breed themselves, pass.
- How many males and how many females do you have?
- Do you have both parents, and can I see their pictures?
If they won’t provide pictures, pass.
- Why don’t you show pictures of your adult dogs on your website?
- Can I come to visit your home and see your dogs?
If the answer is no, pass.
- Can I come to pick up my future puppy?
If the answer is no, we only ship them, pass.
- Are your 10-20 mini bulldogs all loose in your house, or are they in crates?
- Are your mini bulldogs X-rayed for hip and elbow dysplasia (that is very important)
- How do you know they don’t have dysplasia if you don’t X-ray them? 73% of English Bulldogs have dysplasia.
- Do you DNA your dogs to prove their parentage?
- How do I know who are the true parents and grandparents?
- Can you prove 3 generations back? Any pictures?
If there are too many “No” answers, pass.
- Where do you register your mini bulldogs? AKC register only normal bulldogs, not mini!!
- Who will issue my pedigree papers and for what cost?
- What is the total price of your puppy?
- Do you provide a written health guarantee and agreement to take or buy dog back, should this ever become necessary?
If not, pass.
- Do you have a contract? Is my deposit refundable?
If not, pass.
- Do the pups have shots and worming records? Is the whole litter examine by vet before they are sold?
If not, pass
Listen carefully and remember the answers and if you are not 100% satisfied, or something doesn’t sound good to you, or you have a feeling the breeder is hiding something, please check up other breeders. Don’t buy your puppy quick and be disappointed later. You are buying next member of your family, so make sure he/she is the right one from responsible and honest breeder. You want breeder who will talk to you not only before, but also after the sale of puppy. Sometimes you need advice or help from the breeder.
Also remember that responsible breeder will ask you several questions to ensure his puppy will go to good home. If a breeder doesn’t ask you any questions, but only asks to see your checkbook, walk away. Responsible breeder is always willing to take his puppy back if serious problems develop, or if you become unable to care for your puppy any longer.
Don’t be afraid to ask many questions and if the breeder has nothing to hide he will be glad to answer them.
